The Summer Squad program has been running at the Crescent Valley Resource Centre since the summer of 2010. Summer Squad is a free 7-week day camp for children 6-12 . Each summer children play sports and games, go swimming, read, do art activities and go on fun trips to places like the NB Museum, Buskers on the Boardwalk, and the movies. Registration usually opens in the second week of June.
Each day the children start with a healthy breakfast. After that, they may go to the park and play games, do a craft inside or go over to the community garden to read with their Summer Squad counselors, each other or staff from the Saint John Free Public Library who come once a week to visit. The children are provided a free lunch which they take home with them. After the lunch break, Summer Squad may head up to Rockwood Park or uptown to the Aquatic Centre for a swim, or they may go bowling or uptown to the Buskers. Each day is a different adventure full of safe, creative, healthy and educational fun!
Summer Squad is a highly popular program and is the highlight of the summer for many Crescent Valley kids. This program could not be what it is without dedicated, energetic and passionate staff and amazingly generous organizations, groups and funders including: The New Brunswick Children's Founadtion, Canada Summer Jobs, NB SEED Program, and other supporters.
